Dianne Mitchell was born and raised in Greenville, graduating from both Wade Hampton High School and Furman University. Early in her career, she taught music and arts in elementary and middle schools. Her passion for teaching was fueled by the belief that every child deserves an excellent education. After several years of teaching, she attended Indiana University for a graduate degree in Voice Performance, where she met her husband, Todd. After graduation, they married and moved to Denver, where she returned to teaching and performed in local church and opera companies. Wanting to raise their three children in a conservative community near family, they returned to Greenville, where the culture and community reaffirmed their traditional values of morality, marriage, and family.
Dianne is committed to her faith, her family, and her country. A guiding scripture for Dianne is Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” And this verse has guided much of her life as an educator, a mother, a grandmother, and a civic leader.
While raising her children, Dianne ran a preschool music program, taught Sunday School to youth, and served in multiple leadership roles for her children’s sports team, schools, and civic organizations. As chairman of the Community Character Council, Dianne worked for character education in schools. She continued to perform in church and musical theatre productions at Centre Stage, Greenville Little Theatre, and the South Carolina Children’s Theatre.
She is deeply passionate about growing the conservative movement and has dedicated decades of service to leadership in the Republican Party and nonprofit organizations. Dianne has led several conservative Republican organizations, including service as president of the Greenville Republican Women’s Club – the most prominent Republican women’s organization in South Carolina. Dianne spearheaded efforts to pass the Save Women's Sports bill, testifying in committee to support the bill's passage, and influenced legislators to oppose the Scout Motors taxpayer handout and the recent tax increase. She has been directly involved in advancing the conservative agenda in Columbia by holding legislators accountable and educating them on the issues. Now, she's ready to serve the state she loves in a new way as the next Representative of District 21.
Dianne and Todd have been married for 43 years and are blessed to have four beautiful grandchildren. Dianne and Todd worship at Woodruff Rd Presbyterian Church.
